Are you worried about all of the latest trends that are coming out and are afraid you will not be able to afford them or have time to shop for them?

Well fear no more fashionistas. I’m going to save you money and help you have fun with your style. It’s called do it yourself styling.

I do this with a lot of my clients. I love taking what they have and adding little pieces to their particular style of clothing to change it up a bit.

Whether it’s adding a ribbon, folding over your sleeves, or even taking a needle and thread to make your simple tees new and improved, this it what makes styling fun and personal for you!

Use things you won’t miss.
Look for those items that you are thinking about parting with. That way you won’t feel as guilty changing it up a bit.

Find staple pieces to add to your simple sweaters, dresses or t-shirts.
Think chunky jewelry, ribbons or thick sashes. You will be amazed at how a simple DIY can really change up your style.

See if you can sew the necklace on your sweater, blouse, dress or t-shirt. Jeweled clothing is hot for simple styles.

If you want to stick with just the necklace and no sewing them that’s fine too. Make sure the necklace is chucky and falls just above the collar bone.

Simple sweater changes can be fun to do.
Find a silk ribbon. You may have some left over from Christmas. Simply take the ribbon and thread through the neckline or sleeve of your sweater.

You can also add a little detail by cutting a slit along the shoulder and sewing a piece of ribbon to one side of the neckline.

Make sure the ribbon is no bigger than two to three inches and that the holes in the sweater are easy to thread through.

Try old school dying.
If you have a pair of jeans that are worn out then brighten them up with your favorite colors for the spring and summer.

The same can be done with dresses, shorts and shirts. This can be fun and simple.

You may have to try it out a few times to get the color that’s right for you. Have fun with it maybe even throw a little tye die in with it and pair it with a modern more updated looking style.

Get crafty with scissors.
This can be fun as well as creative. If you have a t-shirt or a sweater, cut out the neck or the sleeves.

You can add styles and change up your look simply by layering these two items. Try cutting the bottom of the sweater and layer with a fun tank or t-shirt underneath.

Another idea is to cut the bottom of a long t-shirt and tying the front. Modernize the look with your favorite pant, skirt or shorts. I would layer it with jewelry and possibly a scarf.

Have fun with fabric paint.
Find your old T-shirts and tanks and do a little painting. We all know that prints on tees will always be a hot item in the fashion world so enjoy making your own style.

Have fun with it and keep it super stylish with the latest trends.

You can also take a pair of shoes and paint them. That’s a fun detail that’s easy and can make it seem like you have a new pair of shoes!

Paint the toe of the shoe, the entire shoe or just the bottom, the options or endless!

Coats are fashion transformable.
Something fun would be to take a long light coat or trench coat and transform it into a chic style that stands out.

Take a belt, one that might have a little detail or shine to it and belt your coat, flip your collar and sleeves up for a look like no other.

I found this purple sweater in my attic. I bought it 8 years ago. My DIYing kicked in when I noticed that this sweater was in good shape.

So I cut the turtle neck off and made a fun, off the shoulders, sweater. Make sure your clothing is in good shape, be creative, and have fun.

Then I took the turtleneck and made Dill a toboggan.

And now Dill has a new toboggan.
