Summer is practically here ladies and believe it or not, there are pieces in your fall wardrobe that will help transition you into summer as well as back into fall and winter.
I’ll show you the key pieces to make these easy transitions.
Summer Cotton Knit Sweater
Cashmere and wool, unless they are very thin, are more for fall and winter wardrobes. Cotton knit however, really comes in handy during the summertime.
It’s a great layering piece for cooler evenings in the summer or when they blast the air conditioning in the movie theater. It would even look great as a cover-up for a swimsuit at the beach.
Fall Cotton Knit Sweater
This is the season to break out those cashmere and wool sweaters.
However, if it is still warm during the day yet cool at night, stay with the cotton knit sweater described above.
This sweater still has what I call a transitional or neutral weight to it — meaning that while it’s light enough to wear in summer, it’s substantial enough to wear into fall.
Instead of shorts, pair it with the skinny jeans of the season and high boots, giving you that necessary warmth and style for the cool fall.
Denim is another fabric that is multi-seasonal. You are seeing them in many bright colors and patterns.
It’s great with a tee, a tank, or even a fancy blouse. Roll the bottom up about and inch from your ankle for a cooler more seasonal look.
Wedges and a metallic flats also go great with denim and give it an airy feel for the summer. Of course, accessorizing is the key to amping up any simple item in your wardrobe.
Fall denim can be the same denim you wore in the summer only opt for the darker colors and patterns that aren’t so summery.
With these you can wear a high boot, bootie, or stick with the flats from the summer. Keep the pants full length during the winter.
Spring into Fall
The dress has been a major piece for the last few seasons and every woman should own a range for day and evening.
Microfiber and cotton dresses made are making a big splash this summer, especially here in the south.
You will definitely see them continue into fall. Part of the reason is that the weight of the material is so versatile for different temperatures and this makes it easy to layer.
While it may have been a fashion faux pas in seasons past to mix lighter weight materials with much heavier ones, it is a big trend for fall.
Layering is what makes many items in your closet versatile. Mixing a lighter weight dress with a colored, patterned stocking and boots or high heel platforms is a must this season.
Try layering a dress with your favorite scarf, cardigan, blazer, or jacket. It’s about mixing opposite elements into the same outfit to exaggerate their effect.
The key to seasonal transition is accessories.
Scarves of all weights are a wonderful way to go from fall, winter and into the spring.
Chunky jewelry and big purses add a chic style to any outfit.
