When it comes to fashion and styling tips, it sometimes seems that everyone and their mother have tried about every trick in the book and they absolutely swear by it.
Some are useful, while others, well, not so much.
Here are 15 tips that I have recently tried for myself and with my clients. Let me know how they worked for you in the comments.
1. Shopping for an outfit?
Need an outfit for a special occasion? Head to the store with makeup on, proper undergarments and your hair semi-done to get a better sense of how it’ll look.
2. Understand Styling and Illusions
V-neck sweaters, dresses, tees and long drop necklaces give the illusion of a longer torso.
3.Want to keep those seasonal shoes in shape?
Always stuff them with a soft cloth or old socks.
4. Hoop Earrings.
These are a classic style that every woman, regardless of age, should have, but the type depends on your face. If you have a thin face, go for larger round or embellished hoops.
If you have a round face an elongated hoop or drop style is best.
5. An easy trick to make your bare legs look longer.
Try pumps the same color as your skin, which will give the illusion that your legs extend a few extra inches.
6. Having issues with compulsive buying and a cluttered closet?
Don’t buy items you know you won’t properly care for.
For example, if you know you’re never going to hand-wash that delicate cami or beaded sweater, don’t buy it. This will help you narrow down you purchases and spending.
7. Having a hard time finding the right size jeans?
Well if you are in doubt always buy a smaller size jeans since they stretch with wear.
8. An easy effortless look
Pair dressy bottoms (a velvet maxi, a leather, sequin or beaded skirt, leather or nice dress pants pants) with a worn gray , white crew-neck sweatshirt or T-shirt, heels and accessories for that dressy, effortless affordable style.
9. A good tip when cleaning out your closet
Ask a friend or family member whose style you admire to come over and help determine whether you should keep certain items or toss them.
10. It Can Wait
I always tell my clients If you’re unsure about an impulse or sale purchase, leave it at the store.
If you’re still thinking about it when you wake up the next day, buy it. If it’s not there the next day then it wasn’t meant to be.
11. Shoe Repair
If you have a pair of shoes that you just love and you can’t toss and they are still In style, then find a good cobbler.
He or she can fully rebuild your favorite pair for half the cost and make them look new.
12. Coat Upgrade
Revamp an old coat by swapping out the buttons and having a tailor replace the lining with something eye-catching like a pattern or a bright color.
If you are not up to replacing the lining of the coat then just find the buttons. They can be your pop of color or you can even thread them with a different color for a different style.
13. Dress Up Your Shoes
Snap clip-on earrings onto flats or heels for an instant evening shoe. This was an idea that I learned and tried recently when going through my grandmother’s jewelry.
14. Color Coordinate
Organize your clothes going light to dark from left to right in your closet. Your eye will follow the color and thus help you be organized.
Also, keep items that are easy seasonal transitions in the same closet year round.
15. Sizing Jeans
This is a great tip that everyone one seems to need. Jeans are a bit tricky when it comes to what the length must be.
Always remember that unless they’re cropped or tapered, pant hems should just graze the tops of your shoes and be from 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch off the floor.
