The 411 on Winter to Spring Transition

A lady in the middle of winter and spring
Here in the beautiful Southern states, we go from cold to hot weather in an instant. In-between seasons we feel this dynamic switching back and forth in a big way!

Currently the South is enjoying the spring-like days of 70 to 75 degrees. You can’t ask for better weather than that in February!

It’s still technically winter time. Don’t get too cozy in your flip flops and sandals. True to southern tradition, we’ll have another cold spell soon enough!

While Mother Nature may be undecided about the weather and have everyone confused, let’s not be undecided or confused about our clothes.

Don’t Pack Up Yet

Don’t pack up your cardigans or button up tops. You can layer both of these items, as needed.

On a nice 70 degree day, just roll the sleeves up and put it with your favorite long maxi dress, shorts, or skirt. Ta-da!

Pop of Color

A pop of color brought into an outfit can make a major difference in what you are wearing.

You can do this with a top, shoes, jewelry, scarf or a belt. Be creative and don’t be afraid to experiment!

Simple T-shirts

Remember all of those T-shirts that I had you stock up on during the summer time? Now is the perfect time to put them to good use.

For example, take a simple pencil skirt, tuck in your T-shirt, belt it and then layer it with your favorite cardigan. Voila!

You now have a great transitional night on the town or work outfit.  And you can do the same thing with jeans.  There are endless possibilities.

The Right Shoes

I have personally pulled my boyfriend jeans out and put them with a great closed toe heel. Eventually, I will pair them with my platform shoes, but for now (and for my toes sake!), I’m opting for the closed toe option.

When the official first day of spring hits, or if you are headed to Mexico right now, you can bust out those fun and sexy open toe shoes.

If you are all about comfort, consider getting a good-looking natural, gold, or patterned closed toe flat.

Tights or Leggings

Don’t be afraid to pull the leggings out for the spring and summer. I personally love them!

I am not big on wearing dresses that are too short, so I love a good legging look to expand my options. They are so comfortable and airy, too.

Tights can be worn up until the final cold day. In this area of the USA, who knows when that will be!

So be sure to pull those bad boys out, as needed. We layer for a reason.

If it is 45 degrees when you leave the house that morning, wear your short sleeve top and cardigan with a belt around it.

If it’s then 70 degrees when you leave work, then take that cardigan off and belt your top. You just combined fun and functionality in a new transitional outfit.

Do Some Dabbling

Dabble in your winter clothes. Just because some clothing is deemed “winter wear”, doesn’t mean we can’t try to combine some of it with our summer wear.

Drop the rules and you’ll find that you can combine your winter with your summer clothes.

This is the best way to become Centsibly Southern! We believe in saving money, looking good and maxing out the use of each season’s clothing.

Dresses

Short or long, dresses are great transitional pieces right from your very own closet!

Just pull from the colors that are in the dress and that will help you change your look from winter to spring.

Even by adding boots, tights, leggings, jackets and cardigans, you can add to a simple dress to make a fantastic winter outfit.

To turn it into spring, just take off the extra layers and wear it with your favorite spring heel, cardigan, or belt. Dresses are great for versatility.

Here is a gorgeous Fuchsia colored Maxi Dress for the spring from Victoria Secret for $79.00.

Put it with a cardigan or your favorite sweater and a belt and you have the perfect dress for winter, spring and summer.

Here is the sweater that I featured in the Centsible Styles section recently. This would look great over the Maxi Dress shown above with the ribbon belt or with a camel or black belt.

Once again, you can take the same idea and use your favorite cardigan.

was $49.50 / now $39.95

Here is a nice blouse or top from Gap. She is wearing it with jeans and you can also wear it with your favorite straight or pencil skirt tucked in with a belt or hanging out with the belt over the blouse.

I think a gorgeous and thin gold, fuchsia, camel, or yellow colored belt would look amazing with this top or blouse.

And don’t forget the cardigan if you aren’t quite ready to show your arms yet.
