Why you can wear white after Labor Day….

I know the fashion rule is not to WEAR WHITE after Labor Day.  Being from theSouth and loving fashion as much as I do, this is one rule that I might just have to throw out of the window. It’s kind of like wearing opened toed shoes after Labor Day….that’s another write up in itself. Let’s just say it’s pretty silly to strap on the boots when it’s 90 degrees outside.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about following fashion rules, but sometimes breaking them can be the best thing for yourself and your style.  So with that said, this southern stylist is going to tell you NOT to pack up your white wardrobe just yet. As matter of fact keep them out all year long, with just a few exclusions. Here’s the fashion 411 on how to wear white after Labor Day.

1-material/fabric – this is important. Although I said to keep your whites hanging in your wardrobe keep in mind the material.  I would tuck away linen and summer weight fabrics.  Keep your heavier cotton and denim hanging around.

2-Mix your fall and winter in with your white- Find a sweater, cardigan, fur vest, scarf, blazer or winter jacket that will work perfect with your white pants or skirt.  Try finding a favorite leather pant, skirt or dress aka-winter material and mix with your white blazers. This gives you a crisp and clean look for the fall and winter and is very classic.

3- Mix in white accessories- white handbag, scarf, blazer or statement necklace can be a fresh, fun take on an otherwise typical fall look. Plus, it brightens up your entire outfit in a very stylish way.

4- Head to toe white- Have fun wearing head to toe all white. It’s classic and flawless. Add a fall boot, pump, shoe, or layer of your choice. Once again, be mindful of the fabric.

7-Be creative and have fun-  Find the style you like when it comes to wearing white and figure out how to pull off that same look with what you have in your closet.  If you are missing a piece, you may be able to find the it for less with all of the summer sales going on. Just have fun!

It’s no longer a fashion sin to wear white after Labor Day. In fact, we all know that everyone owns at least one piece of white clothing and there is no since in tucking away a good piece of white clothing because of an age old fashion rule. Find your balance when it comes to wearing white after Labor Day, because we all know that white can can easily add a crisp, creative, and modern edge to any fall or winter look.

God Bless,

Happy Styling
